Editing

General

The only language to be used for the content is English. Translations are not planned at this time. Given the technical nature of the content, this should not be a major issue.

The guidelines detailed here must be followed for all pages, because Wikinline relies heavily on templates and custom functions for maintainability. Any pages not fitting into existing guidelines should not be created until the required guidelines are defined. If in doubt when editing, always check the content of similar existing pages, especially the ones created or maintained by site admins.

Pages

Brands

Naming

The name of the page must be the name of the brand with the first letter in upper-case. For example Rollerblade. It cannot contain spaces (or underscores, which are equivalent).

Content

The Brands pages must all follow the same structure, using the Page brand template :

  • years : Years for which category links will automatically created
  • history : A brief introduction about the company, usually its history
  • website : The website's URL
  • other : Addition text regarding the brand which isn't a simple introduction or its history

This also automatically includes the page in two categories : The Brands category and a dedicated category named after the brand, used by all pages related to that brand.

Logo

Each brand can have a logo automatically appear at the top of its page by having an image file placed as pages-images/Page-<brand>.{png,jpg,gif} by an administrator.

Skates

Naming

The name of the page must be the name of the brand, underscore, the name of the skate, with the first letters of both the brand and the skate in upper-case. The skate name may contain spaces. The skate name must not contain dashes.

If the same name has been used for significantly different skates throughout the years, a space/underscore with the 4 digit year suffix must be used for all variants and a disambiguation page created.

Disambiguation pages should also be used for skates with slight variations in the name. See Rollerblade Twister for an example.

Images

All images are managed using the Special:Upload page. The automatically added main skate image must be called the same as the page name plus an extension (because of the use of templates, .jpg, .png and .gif are the only supported extensions). Any optional secondary images must have the page name as a prefix, a dash then anything else and the extension. Example : For the page Rollerblade Fusion X5 you should have Rollerblade Fusion X5.jpg then optionally Rollerblade Fusion X5-Grey.jpg.

Content

The skates pages must all follow the same structure, using the Page brand skate template. Check the template page itself for the detailed usage.

This also automatically includes the page in relevant categories.

Parts

Naming

Note: A part page name needs to exactly match the string used inside the parts lists from skate pages for a link automatically be created.

The page must be created inside the Parts namespace by prefixing it with Parts:. The name of the page must be the name of the brand, underscore/space, the name of the part, with the first letters of both the brand and the part in upper-case, all the rest in lower case. The type of the part should appear in the name. The part name may contain spaces.

Some generic parts pages may be created, which must follow the same rules, except for the brand prefix.

If the same name has been used for different parts throughout the years, use the same page in which variants get detailed.

Images

All images are managed using the Special:Upload page. The automatically added main part image must be called the same as the page name with a Parts- prefix and an extension (because of the use of templates, .jpg, .png and .gif are the only supported extensions). Any optional secondary images must have the same prefix, a dash, then anything and the extension. That anything used is to be used in the images template parameter.

Content

The parts pages must all follow the same structure, using the Page brand part template.

This also automatically includes the page in relevant categories.

Menus

The main menu's content is taken from the MediaWiki:Sidebar page.

To see a list of all categories, see Special:Categories.

Brands

Each brand must have a category of the same name, see Template:Cat brand.
